Student recruitment in Twin Cities area
Twin Cities, MN
Do you love Scandinavian folk music and live in the Twin Cities area? Sign up for a special introductory weekend of lessons today!
I’ll be in the Twin Cities area this upcoming weekend, October 14-16, to teach and recruit students. I still have available time between Friday and Sunday. I offer lessons on fiddle/violin, harding fiddle and DADGAD guitar (DADGAD = guitar tuning well suitable for Scandinavian folk music), for beginners and advanced students. I will bring an extra fiddle and a harding fiddle for those who don’t have their own instrument yet, but would like to try. I also teach Norwegian and Scandinavian tunes and styles on most other melodic instruments.
If you are interested, or know anyone that might be, feel free to share this post or contact me.
My rates for this recruitment trip are:
$60 an hour
$45 for 45 minutes
$30 for 30 minutesSpecial rate this trip: 2 hours for $100.
Group lessons can be shared with others at the same rates.
All the best

Workshop - Intro to Norwegian Fiddling
1:00-3:00 pmOld Town School of Folk Music, Chicago, IL
Have chops, will travel… fiddlers looking to expand their tune repertoire to seemingly unfamiliar lands, this workshop is for you. Learn the old time fiddling of Norway: the variety of tunes, rhythms and compelling grooves. At it’s roots, Norwegian fiddling has a lot in common with American Old Time fiddling. Cross tuning, double-stops, double stringed bowing and tonalities are shared techniques from one genre to the next. And because Scandinavian countries share the same origin for their fiddle traditions, learning this style is a great way to start exploring this culture’s music. The workshop will introduce you to the older tune types, such as springar and halling, and to some newer types, such as waltz, schottische, polka and mazurka. You’ll leave a few tunes richer with the skills to perform them. Teaching will be done by ear. Recording devices are recommended.
